New CUPE Benefits Trust Transition Date
An important update on the CUPE EWBT
Moving all eligible CUPE members in the province into the CUPE Education Workers’ Benefits Trust (CUPE EWBT) is a major undertaking, involving many stakeholders and moving parts. While we’ve made great progress to date, there have been some obstacles to overcome. To date, a significant number of Boards have still not provided final data to OTIP, our new plan administrator.
With that in mind, our new transition date is March 1, 2018. We believe extending the timeline is important to help ensure a smooth transition – and a more positive experience for our members.

CUPE Press release re the Bill 115 Remedy

After Bill 115 was made law CUPE along with other Education Unions challenged its legitimacy in the courts as we believed this Bill violated our Charter rights. As a result of the challenge in 2016 Bill 115 was declared unconstitutional because the courts found that the Bill violated our freedom of association.
